The Good Glow - All you need to know about Jane Iredale and some top tips!

Jane Iredale stands for clean makeup, free from things that are believed to harm the skin. Their motto:

"The most beautiful cosmetic you can wear is a healthy skin."
All of our Jane Iredale products are cruelty free, PETA approved and full of goodness, and made with the finest minerals and we LOVE them!

Jane Iredale: "When I started the line almost 25 years ago now, I was hesitant to describe it as “natural” because I didn’t know how to define that word.  What is natural? A handful of earth from my garden?  Even that will contain heavy metals and probably some acid rain.  Is natural always a good thing? Poison Ivy is natural, so is Nightshade.
It made more sense to me to describe our line as “clean.”  To me it meant scrubbed of those ingredients that we thought had the potential for harming our skin or our health. Though ingredients play a major role in how we define “clean,” we also believe it is important to be mindful of how we impact the environment and our community."

In the next few paragraphs I am going to cover; how to clean your makeup brushes and why you should definitely do it!

The main few reasons why we should all clean our brushes:

*Cleaning your makeup brushes improves overall performance.

*Cleaning your makeup brushes prevents bacteria, oil buildup and transfer of other products.

*Cleaning them will extend the life of your makeup brushes.Brushes are a big investment in your make up bag, so we should do our best to look after them.

Ideally, we should wash our brushes once a week! I think a lot of us would struggle to find the time some weeks so a more realistic goal is to wash them at least once a month.

Below are the steps of how to clean your makeup brushes.

How to Clean Your Brushes

  1. Use warm water to saturate the brush hairs only (not the full brush).Do not soak your brush as this will ruin it.
  2. Use a pea-sized amount of any mild shampoo, into your hand and massage the into the hair. Do this until the cleanser has been completely dispersed among the brush hairs.
  3. Rinse the brush thoroughly until the water runs clear.
  4. Repeat as necessary.
  5. Create a ring with your index finger and thumb and pull the brush through the fingers while applying gentle pressure to remove excess water and maintain the brushes shape.
  6. Place on a towel and lay flat to dry. Never dry your brush in an upright position as this will loosen the glue that binds the brushes and lead to hair loss.

*Never place your brushes in a steriliser because it will permanently damage them.

Lipstick is one of the most classic cosmetics and remains an essential part of many women’s makeup routine.

Actress, Joan Collins

"To me, lipstick is the best cosmetic that exists."

There's nothing a bit of lippy cant fix! There’s even a holiday to celebrate its greatness—National Lipstick Day is this month ! (29th July!) So we thought why not share our 7 lipstick loving hacks with you!

We often rely on lipstick to help us feel pulled together and confident. On the other hand, sometimes we simply wear it because we enjoy the shade, the moisturizing finish, or even its scent. If you’re a lipstick lover like we are you'll love this next paragraph.

7 Lipstick Hacks that will change your routine forever:

1) Exfoliate your lips.

Regardless of what type of lipstick you are using, having smooth, hydrated lips is vital. When you apply lipstick to flaky or dry lips, the colour doesn’t last as long or look as uniform. Use the Jane Iredale Sugar & Butter Lip Exfoliator to get rid off any dead skin, leaving your lips supple, smooth and ready for colour.

2) Fix mistakes with Absence.

Lipstick mistakes happen to everyone, but erasing stray marks of colour is easier than you think! Many people recommend applying a little concealer around your lip line after applying lipstick, but we prefer to use Absence Oil Control Primer. If you apply a tiny amount to any stray marks using the Camoflage Brush, it acts as a magic eraser to helps get rid of mistakes and make your lip line more defined—no wiping necessary.

3) Make any lipstick matte.

Matte lips are on trend at the moment, but what can you do if your favorite shade isn’t in a matte finish? Find a matte blush that is a similar shade then, using your finger, gently pat the powder blush onto your lips to create a beautiful matte finish.

4) Lock your lip look in all day.

One of the challenging things about lipstick is how your favorite shade can slowly fade as you wear it.  To keep your lip look locked in place all day try the following steps. Gently blot excess lipstick off on a tissue after you’ve applied it.  Using a clean tissue separate the two ply apart so that you have one thin layer of tissue in each hand.  Place one layer across your lips, then using translucent loose powder sprinkle a dusting of powder across your lips.  Finally add another layer of lipstick and you’re good to go!  The translucent powder absorbs excess oil on your lips throughout the day, helping the lipstick to adhere better and last longer.

5) Get a perfect line every time.

We all struggle to create the illusion of perfectly defined lips, but using this hack makes lining your lips easy. First, using your Lip Pencil draw a diagonal line from the highest point of your top lip, down the inside of your Cupid’s bow to the bottom of your upper lip. Then, repeat the process on the other side of you Cupid’s bow. Creating the X helps you create a perfectly lined Cupid’s bow every time.

6) Nudes not enough?

We all love our favorite nude lipsticks, but sometimes they just don’t look right. This might be because your natural lip color is showing through the lipstick. To fix this, pat a small amount of concealer or foundation over your lips before applying your lipstick. This hack will ensure that your lipstick is true to color.

7) Stop your lipstick from feathering.

If your lipstick sometimes strays outside of your lip line, try using a face primer, like our Smooth Affair® for Oily Skin Facial Primer & Brightener.  Apply the primer on clean lips before you apply your lipstick.  Your lipstick won’t stray again.
